Mervin Stephens, age 76, passed away on August 19, 2019. He was born October 26, 1942, in Russell County, Kentucky, to the late Cornelius and Delphie Gosser Stephens. Having owned and operated Tice & Company, Inc., he worked as a plumber for many years, until the death of his wife, Linda Tipton Stephens, in 2007. He then moved to Cynthiana, Kentucky where he fulfilled his dream of becoming a cattle farmer. He loved the outdoors, riding his tractors and keeping his farms in pristine condition. Besides his parents and wife Linda, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Garvey, Edgar, and Vertis Stephens; his sisters Norma Caruthers, Hylia Jean Sallee; half-brothers, Carroll Stephens, Jerry Stephens, Jackie Stephens; and a half-sister, Jewell Stone.
Surviving are his two daughters, Janie (Randy) Perkins and June K. Stephens (Greg Brown), as well as grandchildren, John David (Whitney) Morgerson and Brooke Hayley Perkins. Also surviving are two great-grandchildren, Anna Marie and Eli James Morgerson; a sister, Rosaleen (Cordell) Luttrell; sister-in-law, Freida Stephens; and three half-sisters, Devonda Luttrell, Angie Davis, and Judy Sharp.

Casket bearers are, Randy Perkins, Greg Brown, Andy Applegate, Coleman Tudor, Dusty Tipton and Mark Crowder. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. until time for the service.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Greg Brown for being a loving caregiver. Also, we extend grateful appreciation to those at Bridgepointe at Ashgrove Woods for the love and support that was shown to Pop and our family during his stay there, as well as a special thanks to the nurses and aides for his care, especially Brianna Davis. We also express sincere gratitude to Bluegrass Care Navigators and all the staff at Central Baptist Hospital for their kindness and respectful care.

Mervin, oh how im going to miss you. Although I am beyond greatful for the time I did get to spend with you, i wish i couldve had more time. More memories. More laughs. More attitude & stubborness. I will miss your "mhms" & your "quit that"s. From the first week i started working with you i loved you. You and your daughters will always have a special place in my heart. And i will never forget you Merv. You rest easy & i hope to see you again one day my handsome man.

Pop was the most stubborn, free willed, independent, opinionated, rotten man. But behind that “shell” was my teddy bear, the biggest blue eyed hunk there was. My time with pop, although short, are some of the most cherished times for me. I felt like I had known him for years. He became like family to me. He was the reason I looked forward to going to work, because I knew I would get to see my main man that could make my worst mood into the biggest smile. I’m going to miss going into your rooms in the morning, sitting on your bed and saying “good morning handsome” and seeing that big smile. Your smile could light up the darkest room pop. It made everything better. I’m going to miss eating all of our meals together. I’m going to miss sneaking snacks together. Eating our Oreos, chips, honey buns, popcorn, drinking our favorite drinks. I’m going to miss spoiling you and not regretting a single minute of it. Sneaking you mcdonalds, giving you seconds on deserts. I’m going to miss sneaking away to your room to watch tv, even though most of the time you would fall asleep on me. But that was okay. It was your presence that mattered. I’m going to miss making you jewelry and you “liking it”. I’m going to miss looking at tractors and old school cars in magazines and telling you which ones I liked and you just listening. You always listened to me, I don’t think you actually listened. But hey you acted like it right and that’s all that mattered. I thank god for crossing paths with you and your beautiful daughters. I view them as family now. I would do it all over again if I could pop. I really would. You have made a mark on my heart. I’m sad, sad that my old grumpy man is gone. I’m going to miss calling you that. And saying “handsome man” and seeing you look at me every time, no matter what. If I could have made your head any bigger lord knows I would have. You were one of a kind my sweet man.
I hope you’re eating all the mcdonalds cheeseburgers with no onion in heaven. And until we meet again my handsome man. You were the hardest working man. And you raised two of the hardest, toughest daughters, you should be proud pop. It’s time for you to rest those working hands and soul.
May you rest in love.
Your favorite girl,
Love Brianna ❤️
